Rev. Bernard M. Maloney, OFM
Cap. – Our New
Pastor: arrived on September 1, 2008. Fr. Bernard was born
on January 6, 1942 in Rochester, New York. After high school
graduation from Aquinas Institute in 1960, he entered St.
Lawrence Seminary, Mount Calvary, WI. He joined the Capuchin
Franciscans in 1961. He received his college education (BA
degree) from St. Anthony Friary, Hudson, NH and his theological
education (M Div) from Mary Immaculate Friary and (MA) Maryknoll
Seminary.
Fr. Bernard was ordained a
priest in 1969. Since his ordination: 1970–72 a teacher at
Sacred Heart High School, Yonkers, NY; 1972–76 Postulant
Director for the NY-NE Capuchin Franciscans which also included
from 1973-1976 Vocation Department Coordinator; 1976-81
Parochial Vicar, St. Joseph Church, New Paltz, NY; 1981-87
Pastor, St. Joseph the Worker Church, East Patchogue, L.I.
NY;1987-93 Provincial Vicar for the St. Mary Province of the
NY-NE Capuchin Franciscans;1993-98 Pastor, Sacred Heart Church,
Yonkers, NY;1998-2002 Pastor, St. Francis Solanus Church,
Interlaken, NY & Holy Cross, Ovid, NY;2002- 08 Pastor, St. John
the Baptist Church, New York, NY.
As
his
biography points out, Fr Bernard was assigned here 32 years ago
for five years. He left St. Joseph’s 27 years ago. St. Joseph’s
and the parishioners have never left his heart. He is most happy
to return and strive always to be a worthy servant of God and
the people of God here at St. Joseph’s.
